"It Started at the Underground"

An Origin Story with Netti of Spectrum Records

Before the algorithms, before the likes, before the streaming—there were telephone poles and staplers. Handbills. Vinyl crates. And basements thumping with raw, analog basslines.

“It started at the Underground—literally,” says Netti, co-founder of Spectrum Records. “That was the name of our first favorite house music club. The Underground. Tucked deep in the U District.”

Before Spectrum Records became a name whispered in underground circles and shouted in strobe-lit warehouses, it was just a feeling—a movement. DIY, word-of-mouth, pure frequency. “We had no internet,” Netti recalls. “We’d hit telephone poles with flyers every weekend. It was old school, but it worked.”

Those early days laid the groundwork:

  • 🌀 Grassroots Promotions – A bootstrap crew running DIY rock shows, dance parties, and turntable nights.
  • đŸŽšïž Logarhythms – An open decks night where anyone with wax and guts could plug in and play.
  • 🌈 Spectrum – Born from the dissonance. A label that didn’t want to define a genre—just amplify the truth in the groove.
